badassery

So, summer is coming to an end. It's very sad, but strangely, I am somewhat excited for school. Despite the fact that my science teacher is said to be mean, unapproachable, impossible, and the creator of 20+ page study guides for finals, I have a feeling that this is going to be a really great year. I've just been feeling all inspired and cool lately, you know, just hella swaggie and shizz, and I think I was meant to live the life of a character in Pretty in Pink, or, like... The Virgin Suicides. Mainly just aesthetically. I've also been attempting to channel the mindset of Madonna when I'm in need of a boost of fearlessness. And also, I think I'm really beginning to figure out my style. Last year my style could be summed up as ugly. I've been getting really obsessed with two piece sets. ALLOW ME TO EXPLAIN FOR THOSE WHO DO NOT UNDERSTAND. When I say two piece set, I mean a skirt and a top, of the same pattern. The skirt is semi high waisted, and the top is semi cropped. So basically a dress cut in half!! I have yet to obtain one of these, so I'm planning on going thrifting tomorrow to find some cute dresses I can DIY to make into my dream outfit. I'm also in desperate need of some denim jackets that I can DIY. After seeing this amazing photo diary on Rookie by Eleanor, I just need to quench my desire to create something BEAUTIFUL that I can WEAR made of DENIM. I'm gonna be one cool lookin' girl this year, with my Bikini Kill jacket, my Madonna mindset, and my two piece attire.

Feel free to admire this rad iPad photo quality. It really captured the beauty of my diary. I decorated my diary myself, and personally took it upon myself to write my motto: LIFE IS LIFE, in glitter glue of various colors, and then add some plastic gems and butterflies for aesthetic pleasure. I have been kind of a diary addict lately, and I've been writing non-stop. My mind is usually racing every way POSSIBLE with different ideas and thoughts and outfits to wear and things to do and stories to write and art to make, and I'm always jumping back and forth between every thought and idea, which kind of makes me go insane, so I need to write it all down so that I don't worry about forgetting any of it. I also tend to write about worries/boys/music/amazing days/schemes, etc. A lot of people, like my friend Maya who I met at the Rookie meet up who is to my right in the photo of me in my BK jacket (she is wearing a yellow collar), have the most BEAUTIFUL, AMAZING diaries/journals with all these awesome collages and artwork and prettiness and shit. Mine is mainly just pages and pages of words, but I like it like that. I tend to hoard stuff, too, like the other day I saved all the wrappers from my tootsie pops, and I decided to cut 'em up and make a cool collage in my journal, including my favorite Frida Kahlo quote, "I paint flowers so they will not die," which I will probably write on my next diary/journal. I think my blog is also like my diary in someway, but it's more so ideas/inspiration and stuff I want to share with people and get opinions on, rather than the more personal sterf that I wouldn't want strangers to know, if you get my drift.

My FUCKING AWESOME Bikini Kill jacket via Etsy. I wore it to the Rookie Mag meetup, it was a great way to make friends. I think Tavi may have inadvertently started a cult... but it's okay because this is like, a healthy, flower crown making, glitter throwing cult. We aren't creepy or forcefully religious or anything. This super girl named Erika took the photo, but I can't remember her blog or Tumblr in order to credit her.

day of the dead

I've been looking around for new sources of inspiration lately, and I recently stumbled upon the photographer Elle Hardwick. Her photographs are whimsical and magical and beautiful. I really liked this collection of photographs entitled Day of the Dead, because they're just really fucking cool. I like how the girl has flowers in her boots. I saw a photo like that on tumblr and I think the next time I wear boots or Docs I'll stick some plants in them, too.

I also really liked her Meadham Kirchhoff 2012 Feature for Rookie. I'd seen the feature on Rookie, but I forgot about it, and then I saw it on her website and I was dying because it rocks life and is beautiful and perfect and is so true and representative of all the vibes encompassing Meadham Kirchhoff. I dunno. I just really like it.

PS: I am still emotionally attached and extremely in love with what I call the Meadham Kirchhoff Monster Jacket. Honestly, if I had that jacket, I'd probably wear it everyday. I'd probably sleep with it every night underneath my pillow. I'd probably cry every time I wore it, meaning I would cry every second of everyday. Since the odds of me ever having the cash money to buy this jacket is non-existent, I think I'll purposely go to clothing design school just so I can make this jacket for myself. I just need this jacket. FUCK IT'S LITERALLY SO AMAZING I WANNA CRY. (MK Monster Jacket on the right, while the MK Heart jacket is on the left. I love them both, but I love MK Monster more.) (This collection in general is probably my favorite collection of all time.)

top ranking

So one of my favorite things to watch is this video, in which Miranda July poses and acts really cool. I tried to make my own version, but my editing skills are really pathetic and I couldn't cut anything properly the way hers consists of individual frames, so mine is just basically consecutive poses all in one frame! It's not as good as hers, but it's still kinda cool, and my outfit looks nice. When I was making the video, I thought I looked really cool and uber suave. I now realize that I move super awkwardly and that my body language translates as confused and uncomfortable, which is moderately embarrassing. In reality though, I thought I was being that cool type of awkward that is super awkward, yet cool. Hopefully that's what I achieved.

Also, if you're totally digging that awesome flower crown I'm wearing, BEHOLD! I will soon be opening an etsy store and selling tons of pretty crowns and other cool stuff that is both comfortable and stylin'. What you see in the video is kind of what my style has been like recently. I thrifted that shirt, and then I cut the fabric under the collar so that it looks all cool. I'm probably going to sew a patch or something onto the front. I made a really cool one that says PUNX in purple on some pretty, flowery fabric. I've just been seeing PUNX everywhere on etsy when I search feminist/riot grrrl stuff. I don't really know what it means, I'm assuming it's just a cool way to say PUNKS/PUNK, or perhaps a reference to Hunx and His Punx, hence, one of my favorite bands. Either way, I think it looks awesome, and hopefully it doesn't mean something really weird like avid farter or anything.

ALSO, big big news!! I bought a jacket on Etsy yesterday! It's literally so amazing. All you Riot Grrrl lovers and enthusiasts are going to die and probably cry, because that's what I did when I first saw the jacket. I want to keep the jacket a surprise, so I'm not going to tell you anything other than it's a leather (pleather, actually. wahoo!) jacket. The lady (she was actually a grrrl who was so amazing and cool and I wish I knew her in real life because I think we would be good friends and she is 21 and can legally drink, which is super impressive!) who sold it to me was beyond nice and helpful, so go checkout her awesome store here!

And for the third also, I will hopefully have a lot more outfit posts soon. The problem is that I really only like making outfit posts of things I've actually worn, rather than just dressing up for a photo shoot, and since it's summer and I'm lazy, I usually either don't get out of my pajamas, or I forget to take pictures of my outfits when I'm out with friends or when I just happen to be in clothes other than the ones I sleep in. I'm hanging out with my amazing friend Natalie tomorrow though who has an amazing iPHONE, so hopefully she can snap some photos of me!

One last thing! I made a youtube channel where I will probably post cool shit, so if you want to subscribe feel free! CLICK.

hello mickey

This is my favorite jacket. It's this semi-retro Mickey Mouse jean jacket from the disney store that blows the roof off my house with its awesomeness. I bought it from my friend for $3, and I wear it all the time. It definitely has some great 80s/90s vibes, which is perfect for my life and obsession with the 80s/90s. I feel like this 2012-ish era is going back to the styles of the 90s/60s/80s... grungy/neon/leggings/collars/bandanas/keds/ankle socks, etc, but then again maybe only my city is going back to those decades... WHO KNOWS. I am honestly so ashamed of how I've been dressing lately. It's just so mundane and typical, not original or exciting or daring or experimental at all! And I'm not hating on the more simple dressers or the world, I just really want to be a unique dresser, and I'm failing at doing so! I think part of the problem is that I haven't found my style niche, so I'm still trying to find my style comfort zone. I really need to start getting back into my weird-dressing stage of life. #YOLO (das da motto.)

I think my main issue here is that I am just extremely bored of my clothes, and I've basically exhausted all possible possibilities of ways to style/wear them. I just need to go on a major thrift store adventure and bring home a huge clothing haul of like, 20 items so I have TONS of new stuff to wear/style/make look awesome. I think awesome is an unappreciated adjective... people just feel that it's such a normal, boring adjective that they diminish all its great qualities and sassy essence.

POOOOOOOOOOOOP

Funk mood. Let's party.
