I've been obsessed with vintage National Geographic photos lately, and vintage scenery/landscape photos in general. They are literally just so aesthetically perfect and beautiful, and I just wish I could go into the little worlds I see and imagine in the photographs. Digital photography is so phlegmatic and cold. It just doesn't capture images the same way film does, and it just sort of gives photographs an empty feeling. Lately it seems I've been on a never ending journey to discover myself and where I belong and who I am. I think I've finally found my style, which is a mix of earthy and punk vibes. After trying practically everything else, this is what feels most comfortable to me, and what expresses my inner self most accurately. I've been getting really interested in the environment and nature and the naturalness of everything. I'm currently in the process of redecorating my room yet again, and I want to cover the walls in dream catchers, maps, vintage photographs, tea bags, and other pretty stuff. I want my room to represent a sanctuary of things I love/that inspire me. Dried tea bags just look really cool and pretty and smell awesome and add that extra aesthetic touch I need. I have been collecting them for forever so it'll be nice to finally put them to good use.
I know people always say high school is the worst four years of your life, but I actually really like it. I'm more focused on being true to myself rather than conforming for acceptance, and I'm also just surrounded by more positive and encouraging people than I was in middle school. I actually look forward to going to school, and once I'm there I really enjoy it.
The one thing I can't stand is my art class. It's very concrete and it's hard to make assignments personal and expressive because it's a portfolio class intended for juniors and seniors. I took it this year (sophomore year) because I wanted to develop my drawing skills, but the only thing I've learned is that I hate drawing. We have a homework assignment every week, and they usually take me 3-6 hours, It's so annoying because I'd rather collage a self portrait or do prints or something more abstract and interpretive than a simple pencil drawing and background, but I can't because "that's not the assignment." I think I'm just going to start pushing the boundaries so it's more fun for me and more enjoyable.
