self

My room is in the process of being redecorated, as it seems to be every summer. I want to repaint the walls yellow, and the trim blue. It's my favorite color combination and reminds of my Mexican styled homes I've been in and adored. I'm planning on moving my bed somewhere, so I can put my record player, records, favorite books and trinkets under my windows. A little shrine to things I love. Things I'll include on that shrine will be my copy of Kurt Cobain's journals, my copy of Frida Kahlo's journals, the books Just Kids, Nobody Belongs Here More Than You, 1000 Journals Project, The Friday Night Knitting Club, Weetzie Bat, Rookie Yearbook, and my Mexican folk art coloring book. Things will obviously be added to it over time, but I feel like my room is lacking that special shrine of things I want to see everyday and worship as if they were the Gods to my religion. I'll also include all the zines I've collected, my Rolling Stones, Hi-Fructose, and National Geographics (vintage). I'll include my Italian Vogue magazine and glass necklace (which I wear most everyday) that my dad got for me when he visited Italy, and my Banksy and Warhol art books that I will leave open on either side of my record player, every morning turning one page in each as my ritual to the sun rising.

teenage diary

ATTENTION CITIZENS.
This is a very important post. I just started one of two collectives I'll be establishing within the fine old month of January. The one I just set up is called Teenage Diary (but the URL is teenage-journals.tumblr.com). It's similar to Teenage Bedroom, in the sense that any person can submit, but rather than bedrooms it's diary and journals entries. Entries can be posted anonymously if the author requests as such. I've been obsessed with diaries and journals for a while and I've always thought it interesting to have a huge collective full of diary and journal entries from teens (past and present) of the world. Entries can be written, collaged, drawn, or whatever. Entries can be song lyrics, poetry, love letters never sent, sticker montages, etc. I hope you all submit and follow and spread the word!! I'll have more info about my second collective soon.

10: take more photos in general!
11: establish my collective by the end of january
12: finish redecorating my room
13: make lots of art
14: do more creative things in my journals rather than just rants.
15: hang up my tea bag collection
16: get more masks for my mask collection
17: get some tarot cards!
18: live life and be happy!

these are two of my favorite entries from Minna's journals. She is an artist for Rookie!

this is a college-drawing I made a few days ago. I didn't draw the face, I just cut it out and taped it. I did do the designs though. I originally drew the black pen design, thinking I would cover the entire paper in it. But then I found the face drawing and thought it would look awesome with the design, and then I drew a colorful design around it. It's supposed to represent insanity... I was thinking of putting a quote from Alice in Wonderland:
The Mad Hatter: Have I gone mad?
[Alice checks Hatter's temperature]
Alice Kingsley: I'm afraid so. You're entirely bonkers. But I'll tell you a secret. All the best people are.

OR

putting this lyric-esque thing I wrote,
"Someone call a doctor, I think I'm going crazy. I think I'm going crazy. Somebody save me."

What do you think I should put?

PS: I just received in the mail The 1000 Journals Project, The Diary of Frida Kahlo, and Kurt Cobain's Journals. They are all incredibly fantastic and I'll be posting photos of them soon! Happy New Year!!

your life

“I want to be alone and I want people to notice me - both at the same time”
—Thom Yorke

“I love you more than my own skin.”
-Frida Kahlo

“Books are adventure. They contain murder and mayhem and passion. They love anyone who opens them.”
—Inkheart

“No dreams impassion the sleep of this mahout’s helper, battered to death by an elephant after the boy teased it.” - National Geographic, 1971.

“Your life is not an episode of Skins. Things will never look quite as good as they do in a faded, sun-drenched Polaroid; your days are not an editorial from Lula. Your life is not a Sofia Coppola movie, or a Chuck Palahniuk novel, or a Charles Bukowski poem. Grace Coddington isn’t your creative director. Bon Iver and Joy Division don’t play softly in the background at appropriate moments. Your hysterical teenage diary isn’t a work of art. Your room probably isn’t Selby material. Your life isn’t a Tumblr screencap. Every word that comes out of your mouth will not be beautiful and poignant, infinitely quotable. Your pain will not be pretty. Crying till you vomit is always shit. You cannot romanticize hurt. Or sadness. Or loneliness. You will have homework, and hangovers and bad hair days. The train being late won’t lead to any fateful encounters, it will make you late. Sometimes your work will suck. Sometimes you will suck. Far too often, everything will suck - and not in a Wes Anderson kind of way. And there is no divine consolation - only the knowledge that we will hopefully experience the full spectrum - and that sometimes, just sometimes, life will feel like a Coppola film.”

some of the greatest photos ever. i wish i knew who took them. i'm pretty sure they're from the 70s, just based off the color hues.

just like, idk. something.

last year i used to try and dress so original and creatively. looking back at what i wore is just completely embarrassing. i was trying so hard to be seen as the person i wanted to be seen as. now i like wearing hot pants and cropped turtle necks if i feel like it, and i like just being happy with my body and stuff and embracing what i actually look like. this isn’t to say i’m totally happy with how i look all the time, but i also acknowledge that it’s okay to look the way i do and i’m happy that i don’t look average and that i have a unique face and such. i don’t really care about trying to dress all unique anymore, i just dress in whatever i feel like wearing. i want to be unique and original, but am i still being original and unique if i have to try and be original and unique? like, how does that even work? like, is a person who has to try to be creative actually creative? and is the act of attempting to be creative truly creative? i think everyone is creative.

i think i may dye my hair soon.

****Also: IMPORTANT OMG READ. I think it would be totally amazing to create a journal/zine/book thing that consisted of journal/diary entries from tons of people. Basically, people send me their diary entries (scan then email), then i put said diary entries into a book of some sort, viola, an awesome thing people can read. if you are potentially interested email me at stylewandering@gmail.com for details because i'm too tired to eloquently explain my vision.

i really want this. does anybody know where I can get something like this?

wow this jacket is too good. frida kahlo is my life and this girl just completely killed me. now i have to go recreate this. or pay someone to recreate it...

i really like to draw

I've been drawing a lot lately, and these are some of my drawings. I did a series of drawings where I doodled on my favorite celebrities' faces and stuff, and then accented them with glitter, and then about 15 minutes ago I decided to draw a pepper.

Marilyn Monroe

Madonna

John Lennon

Courtney Love

Leo DiCaprio

Winona Ryder

Audrey Hepburn

Frida Kahlo

Paul McCartney

David Bowie

A pepper. I'm not sure if it's finished yet. If you have any advice or tips on how to make it better, please share!
